They without the right strategy, they invest hours of their time forgetting that <em>the only tangible benefit (their database of friends or followers) is controlled by a 3rd party who can change the rules of the game at any time.</em></p>
<p>A perfect example is how most users of Twitter have had <strong>a rude awakening</strong> over the last 48-hours or so. They awoke yesterday to find their “following” and “followers” lists slashed in half… or more! <strong>Hundreds and even thousands of contacts gone! POOF!</strong></p>

<h3>Poor excuse, but who&#8217;s to blame?</h3>
<p>Twitter’s “spam” excuse is a poor one. I and several other people I know on Twitter personally visit the page of each new Follower as new requests come in. So to see several hundred followers disappear and have Twitter say they “spammers” is clearly BS. </p>
<p>That’s to be expected and nothing to get upset about. It&#8217; a danger you should expect. <em>Twitter can do and say anything they want. And so can any other Social Network</em>. Any of them can change the rules of the game whenever they want. They can arbitrarily put caps on the number of followers or friends you can have. Even delete people from your list at their whim. </p>
<p>See, <strong>the problem is not with Twitter, Facebook, or any other “free” Social Networking channel</strong>. The blame rests with you if you leave it to these services to have control over your contact list. Harsh, but true.</p>

<p>Up till now a lot of the on-site tracking solutions out there have been cumbersome at best. (Downright useless in their eye-blurrying complexity at their worst.) <img src='http://tribalseduction.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Crazy Egg is a simple solution for optimizing your site and your marketing, New Media or otherwise.</p>
<p>We’ve been testing Crazy Egg on several of our sites blogs and the results have been very helpful. I&#8217;m going to share some examples from a 14-day test we ran on the 1st page of the BLOGi360 sign up process so you can see how much insight you can gain from this tool.</p>
<h3>Let&#8217;s take a look at some things Crazy Egg can do for you&#8230;</h3>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve setup a page tracking campaign and start playing Big Brother, you&#8217;ll have several ways to slice-and-dice visitor actions. You can choose from different views that give you different info.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll start with Crazy Egg&#8217;s newest view called Confetti.</p>
<h3>Confetti view</h3>

<p>In the image above you see colored dots. Each one represents <span id="more-91"></span>a click. You have control over what data is displayed. You can display referrers, search terms, time-to-click and more.</p>
<p>Even more helpful in Confetti view is the ability to hover/click on each dot to see the full details for that click (and that visitor.) Where they came from, what browser they were using, what screen resolution they had, etc.</p>
<h3>Overlay view</h3>

<p>The overlay view in Crazy Egg is the easiest view to work with. Each &#8220;+&#8221; symbol you see expands to the initial view (as in the screen shot above) showing the number of clicks for that area of the page. Another click on the &#8220;more +&#8221; of the tab opens all the referrer info for that area of your page.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s clean, simple and will give even the newest marketer ideas on how to optimize their pages.</p>
<h3>Heatmap view </h3>
<p><strong>(non-clickable areas)</strong></p>

<p>Another cool view in Crazy Egg is the heatmap. In the example above I selected to view clicks on &#8220;other&#8221; areas. These are essentially non-clickable places where people tried clicking. This option is available in any view, but I&#8217;ve found it most helpful in the heatmap view.</p>
<p>Sometimes seeing where people try to click is just downright hilarious. <img src='http://tribalseduction.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> ) But in other instances &#8212; it can put money in your pocket.</p>
<p>For example, in the image above you can clearly see quite a few people tried clicking on the &#8220;ONE DOLLAR&#8221; coupon code. It is just regular copy reminding them again what was mentioned on the sales page about getting their first 30-days for one dollar. </p>
<p>We didn&#8217;t think that people might be coming directly to this page and were seeing that mention of the &#8220;ONE DOLLAR&#8221; coupon for the first time. So now, with what we learned from this heatmap, we&#8217;ll make those two words a link that opens a pop-over or AJAX hover window with a little more info on the <em>$1-for-first-30-days offer</em>.</p>
<p>Simple, but we&#8217;d never know that without Crazy Egg tracking things people try to click that are not clickable. <img src='http://tribalseduction.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<h3>List view</h3>

<p>Of course, you can chose to see data in a more traditional view too. This is the list view shown above. You can chose between identified page elements and unidentified ones. Pretty simple and straight forward here in this view.</p>

Uggghh. Without doubt, this topic can seem a little &#8220;techie.&#8221; But if you want to make winning raving fans and make making money easy and fun, here&#8217;s the key. You need to know EXACTLY what <em>Captivates attention</em> (the &#8220;<strong>C</strong>&#8221; in <a href="http://tribalseduction.com/newmedia/connecttoconvertwithnewmediamarketingreversals/">Tribal Seduction CHARM formula</a>) and <em>Motivates them to action</em> (the &#8220;<strong>M</strong>&#8221; in CHARM) is critical.</p>
<p>A great free tool to <strong>make your testing and tracking easy</strong> is Google&#8217;s Website optimizer. But even with this Google powered tool, it can be a little imposing if you&#8217;ve never done testing and tracking to <strong>boost your traffic and sales conversions</strong>.</p>
<p>Well Google has done a full video walk-through of their free Website Optimizer service making it simple to get going. It&#8217;s 63-minutes on YouTube, but well worth the time. <p><strong>Step 1 &#8211; by you</strong></p>
<p>The first step is following the basics that we laid out in Part One of this series; <a href="http://tribalseduction.com/newmedia/what-is-social-bookmarking/" title="What is Social Bookmarking?">What is Social Bookmarking?</a>  Understand that you need to have some social bookmarking accounts set up.</p>
<p>Once you’ve created your post (or page) on your blog, you’re going to go to the various bookmarking sites.  <em>(A complete list is provided within the PDF download below.)</em>  You’ll want to bookmark your at the various sites.  It can be one or two, or it could be a couple dozen.</p>
<p><strong>Step 2 &#8211; automagic</strong></p>
<p>Once you have your post bookmarked, almost immediately the Google spider, and the Yahoo spider and the MSN spiders, any of the search engine spiders, are going to come into these sites.</p>
<p>Search engines love the social bookmarking sites because they’re highly ranked and they’re highly credible.  The content that is being created here is filtered by human beings.  So the search engines see it as being a highly credible source of links to valuable content.</p>
<p>The Google spider crawls through the social bookmarking sites, immediately follows the link back to your site, checks the post that has been bookmarked, comes back to the Google home and further increases the ranking on that content for you.  That increases the chances of you being found by the general public.  They find the content based on the keywords that they’ve entered.  Generally the search engines will lead them into your home page.  <em>(There are some key things that need to be on the home page, but we’ll get to that in a little bit.)</em><span id="more-36"></span></p>
<p><strong>Step 3 &#8211; automagic</strong></p>
<p>The other thing that’s happening is simultaneously and over time is that people are coming into the social bookmarking sites and regular users of the social bookmarking sites are rating your content.  They’re doing keyword searches based on what they’re looking for. They find your content and they’re able to interact with it.  They’re able to rank it up as we saw in the first video.</p>
<p><strong>Step 4 &#8211; automagic</strong></p>
<p>Some of the people are just discussing the content and ranking it.  Other people fall in love with your content.  They like what they have to say, they think it might be of interest to their audience, so they will actually create a blog post.</p>
<p>When that happens, two different things are going on.  As you see on the right, the search engine spiders are going in and crawling their blog posts, and that further enhances your ranking again in the organic search engine rankings.</p>
<p><strong>Step 5 &#8211; the critical step for you &#8212; do it one time and it keeps working 24/7/365 to build your list, grow your Tribe, and boost your sales</strong></p>
<p>Using the graphics in the PDF download or in the video, you&#8217;ll notice on the left, you have open search users, people from the general public or other users from the social bookmarking sites who are just coming in and doing keyword searches.  They find your content and they link over directly to your posts.</p>
<p>You’re getting all these different channels of traffic just from having your blog posts regularly bookmarked in all the social bookmark engines.</p>
<p>That’s pretty simple, and if you think about it, really makes sense.  You’re getting more traffic and more traffic means more money eventually.  But here’s what most people are missing.  There’s a key step that needs to take place when they land at your site.</p>
<p><strong>Remember, there are two different ways that visitors are coming in&#8230;</strong></p>
<blockquote><p><strong>Visitor Type #1:</strong> You have the open search visitors who are finding you through the search engines at Google.com or Yahoo.com, and these visitors are generally coming into your home page.</p>
<p>When they get to that home page, what are they finding? If they’re finding a regular blog page, then the likelihood of them taking action is slim to none.</p>
<p>People are easily distracted and if they don’t have a singular focus when they land on your home page, then that is going to cause “inaction”, most of the time they’ll just click away and leaving your site.</p></blockquote>
<p>That&#8217;s why this is so critial &#8212; on your home page &#8212; you need a name-capture.</p>
<p>It should be a focused name-capture. Either that being the main focus and the main priority of your home page. Or at least have it in a visual hot spot on your home page where it is getting their immediate attention as soon as they land on that home page.</p>
<p>That name-capture can be to sign up for membership privileges or a special report. Or maybe a video series that they can download. Whatever it might be there is an exchange that is taking place.  They’re giving you at least their first name and email address, in return for some type of free content or information of value to that visitor.</p>
<p>Now what takes place after they sign up is they’re added to your email list, at the very least.  You can build a physical mailing list off of this as well, but let’s just say it’s an email list.</p>
<p>What’s going to happen at that point is they are then going to be put into your auto-subscription running off your SaleZBuilder™ site. Wit this you’re able to have automated updates go out to that email list where as your content is added to your blog, to your site, it’s automatically being pushed out to those users. It&#8217;s delivered to those members of your subscriber family in the form of an ezine, or a newsletter.</p>
<p>You’re building your tribe and then keeping in constant contact with them automatically based on what you do on your SaleZBuilder™ site.</p>
<p>Then also occasionally, you’re going to be broadcasting out special offers that you know are of interest to your tribe, to your target audience.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>Visitor Type </strong><strong>#2:</strong> Now what about these social bookmark visitors? Keep in mind that in the new media marketplace, when visitors come into your site it’s very likely they’re coming directly to a post or a page on your site, not to the home page.</p></blockquote>
<p>What’s important is that there is a short form name capture in a visual hotspot; that means in the sidebar or maybe in the header itself; which replicates exactly what is on the home page.  You’re not doing duplicate work here, you’re just creating a short form of what’s on the home page.  You make sure they can notice it right away because it’s in a visual hotspot.</p>
<p>Another great relationship builder is to have a special document or a multi-media download that’s related to the post or page that they’re coming in on.  Obviously you can’t do this for every post or page, but if you’re doing a series, let’s say, or you have something that you’ve put quite a bit of work into as a post, and there is a document or an expansion on it that would be of value to the reader, offer it free.  No hitches, no nothing, just a download link.</p>
<p>Again, this is taking the relationship to the next level and reinforcing the relationship that you’re building.</p>
<p><strong>The key is to get that visitor to take action</strong>, to join your subscriber family, to join your tribe.</p>
